A little boy told his
mother: "Today a monk came to our school and showed us gong meditation.
He told us to watch where the sound went and to listen very carefully
and if we followed where the sound went we may get closer to God, and
I did that."
And the mother asked: "Then what happened?"
The little boy responded: "Well mom, when I watched and listened
to where the sound went, I didn't get closer to God, I was God."

Someone once asked a Native American grandmother:
"Why are Native American babies calmer than White American Babies?"
She responded by describing a tribe tradition, in which when a girl is
blessed with her first period, she is given the opportunity to go into
the wilderness all by herself to meditate on what kind of woman she would
like to be.
This tradition would continue each month on the onset of her menstrual
cycle giving her an exclusive opportunity to spend another day all by
herself on meditation.
As this girl grew up, she would then spend time meditating on the type
of man she would like to be with.
After she got engaged, she would focus her meditation on what kind of
wife she would like to become and what kind of mother she aspires to be,
after she got married.
Thus, each woman in the tribe during the course of her adulthood would
get special opportunities to spend solitary time meditating and reflecting
on what kind of person she wanted to become.
Eventually, the grandmother concluded by stating that: "So
you see, calm mothers make calm babies."
Meditation, like morality or attitude, is not always
taught.... it is sometimes caught.
Many years back, I was invited to a Birthday party of a little boy who
had a new-born sister called Sabrina.
When, I entered their home, Sabrina was being rocked by her uncle who
was desperately trying to console her from sobbing.
I went up to him and asked if I could hold Sabrina.
Within moments after he placed Sabrina in my hands, she stopped crying.
And the uncle said: "What did you do Meher? What did you do, that
stopped her crying?"
And I said: "Nothing."
I told him that she probably calmed down because I am calm and babies
normally absorb the reflections of adults holding them.
It says in my book Bread For the Head
that:
"Meditation is confirmation of unification
with creation".
So
"Focus on being meditation instead of just
doing meditation".
Because
"When you live your life in meditation, you
will have no need for medication".
Personally, I do not have to go on the top of a mountain or the bottom
of an ocean to meditate because I believe that meditation like love, is
purely in the moment.
And every blessed moment provides a momentous opportunity to live our
life in peace and love and harmony.
Once, we enter the dimension of that consciousness, we will realize that:
