Solids.. Interfere

INTERFERE command is capable to calculate the common volume of two solids. A new solid is created from the interference, but the original object remains.

Creating interference between cone and sphere

Create a CONE of R 1.5 and height 6 units in 2D Wireframe
Invoke a CONE (Draw menu > Solids > Cone)
Command: cone
Current wire frame density: ISOLINES=4
Specify center point for base of cone or [Elliptical] <0,0,0>: Pick a point

Specify radius for base of cone or [Diameter]: 1.5
Specify height of cone or [Apex]:6

Alter the shade mode to GOURAUD SHADED from the Shade Toolbar as shown in Figure 1

Figure 2

Create a SPHERE on top of the cone of R1.0 in 2D Wireframe
Invoke SPHERE (Draw menu > Solids > Sphere)
Command: sphere
Current wire frame density: ISOLINES=4
Specify center of sphere <0,0,0>: > Pick a point at the top of the cone
Specify radius of sphere or [Diameter]:1

Alter the shade mode to GOURAUD SHADED from the Shade Toolbar as shown in Figure 2

Create INTERFERE between cone and sphere in 2D Wireframe as shown in Figure 3
Invoke INTERFERE (Draw menu > Solids > Interference).
Command: _interfere
Select first set of solids: Select the sphere
Select objects: Enter
Select second set of solids: Select the cone
Select objects: Enter
Comparing 2 solids with each other.
Interfering solids: 2
Interfering pairs : 1
Create interference solids? [Yes/No] : Y

MOVE the object that overlaps to the right as shown in Figure 4
Command: _move
Select objects: Select the object that overlaps the cone and sphere
Select objects: Enter
Specify base point or displacement: Select it at the center
Specify second point of displacement: Move the object out to the right

Alter the shade mode to GOURAUD SHADED from the Shade Toolbar as shown in Figure 5

Creating interference between two cylinders

Create a CYLINDER of R 2 and height 4 units in 2D Wireframe as shown in Figure 6
Invoke a CYLINDER (Draw menu > Solids > Cylinder)
Command: cylinder
Current wire frame density: ISOLINES=30
Specify center point for base of cylinder or [Elliptical] <0,0,0>: Pick a point
Specify radius for base of cylinder or [Diameter]: 2(Radius)
Specify height of cylinder or [Center of other end]:4

Figure 6

Create another CYLINDER of R 3 and height -5 units in 2D Wireframe as shown in Figure 7
Invoke a CYLINDER (Draw menu > Solids > Cylinder)
Command: cylinder
Current wire frame density: ISOLINES=30
Specify center point for base of cylinder or [Elliptical] <0,0,0>: Snap to quadrant of first cylinder at the top
Specify radius for base of cylinder or [Diameter]: 3(Radius)
Specify height of cylinder or [Center of other end]: - 5 (-ve)

Alter the shade mode to GOURAUD SHADED from the Shade Toolbar as shown in Figure 8

Figure 8

Create INTERFERE between two cylinder in 2D Wireframe as shown in Figure 9
Invoke INTERFERE (Draw menu > Solids > Interference).
Command: _interfere
Select first set of solids: Select the first cylinder
Select objects: Enter
Select second set of solids: Select the second cylinder
Select objects: Enter
Comparing 2 solids with each other.
Interfering solids: 2
Interfering pairs : 1
Create interference solids? [Yes/No] : Y

Notice the object in black color has created an interference as shown in Figure 9

MOVE the object that overlaps to the right as shown in Figure 10
